Sagres is a small village located in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in the Algarve Region, the most western part of the Algarvian region. It is famous for its Fortress, which takes its name from the city, Ponta de Sagres. Two other important attractions in the region are the Lighthouse of Ponta de Sagres, located inside the Sagres fortress, further to the edge of the extreme southwest cape, and the Lighthouse of São Vicente, an older construction dated from the year 1500. The village started to have historical importance at the discovery times when it became a port where the sailors could find refuge. Nowadays the main economic activity of the parish is tourism, which finds in the Sagres fortress and at the Mareta beach its main destination.

Sagres is a very small village in the western point of the Algarve, being connected with the region mainly by bus, on the direct line to Lagos. Due to its geographic location, far from the main towns, Sagres is still a very wide parish. But that does not mean that life there is not good; actually is the opposite.
