Trail in the cliffs of Lagoa elected "the best in Europe"!
The Route of the Seven Suspended Valleys, in Lagoa, Algarve, leads the top of the European Best Destinations website. Pico do Areeiro, in Madeira, is also on the list.
A little corner of Paradise
"Breathtaking, unforgettable, one of the most beautiful walks in Europe and accessible to all ages." This is how the European Best Destinations website describes the "little corner of paradise" that stretches along the Route of the Seven Suspended Valleys, in Lagoa, in the Algarve, elected as the "best walk in Europe".
The trail traverses the golden cliffs along the coast, along 5.7 kilometres, from Vale Centeanes Beach to Praia da Marinha. It includes "exceptional places" such as the Benagil caves, the Senhora da Rocha Chapel, the fishing village of Ferragudo, the lighthouse of Alfanzina and the beaches of Cova Redonda, Carvoeiro and Albandeira, lists the publication. "An incredible and unbelievable nature awaits you."
The Portuguese route was the most voted in a ranking promoted by European Best Destinations, an organization based in Brussels "dedicated to promoting culture and tourism in Europe", specializing in top topics in the travel industry and most famous for being responsible for voting annual "best European destination of the year" - which this year gave the victory to Budapest but gave Braga the 2nd place.
Another Portuguese trail on the list
Now, in this vote for the best walks of the continent, guarantees the organization, participated more than 28 thousand travellers from 153 countries.
And the Algarve trail was not the only Portuguese to be included in the list: in fifth place is the Pico do Areeiro in Madeira. "It may be cloudy in the morning, but the fog usually dissipates in the early afternoon," the website said.
