It is Alameda that will welcome the year of the Rat!
Special program on the weekend of 18 and 19 January makes Alameda the center of the party that greets the beginning of the Chinese New year.
The year 2019 celebrated the Year of the Pig and the end of the twelve signs that make the Chinese horoscope. This year, the podium is for the Rat, which marks a new twelve-year cycle, as it is the first sign of the lunar calendar and represents agility, intelligence and wealth accumulation.
"We want the entire local community, whether Chinese, Portuguese or foreign, to be present and to participate in the various activities and make the celebrations of the Chinese New Year 2020 unforgettable." It was with this inclusion in mind that the organization decided to schedule the festivities for the weekend.
Celebrate the Chinese Culture in Lisbon!
On Saturday, the 18th, the traditional Chinese New Year parade organized by the Association of Luso-Chinese Traders and Industrialists and the Chinese Embassy will start at 11 am. The meeting point takes place next to the Church of Anjos and from there hundreds of participants will go to Alameda D. Afonso Henriques.
There will be martial arts, dragon dances, theater, and even ballet. The party, however, does not stop here. On the two days, between 10 am and 5 pm, Alameda hosts a Chinese fair with decorations, handicrafts, and gastronomy! The admission to the fair is free.
Celebrate the Chinese Culture in Museu do Oriente by learning how to make traditional Chinese lamps or learning Chinese paper cutting! The entrance is free, however, the activities have their own price.
To finish off the day, don’t miss the Yu Sheng or Pen Cai dishes at Soão restaurant, the delicious and juicy dumplings at Bao Bao, and the beautiful artistic desserts at The Old House.
